George Samuel Specht was the eldest of seven sons of Joseph Henry Specht & Louisa Annette Coulter. His middle name was for his maternal grandfather, Samuel Coulter. George married April 2, 1914, to Orra Lea Ames (1888-1981), daughter of Wesley & Josephine (Alexander) Ames. George & Orra had four children: Gaylord Dean, Doris Irene, Esther Louise, and Phyllis Jane "Jayne" Specht.

In 1910, George was co-founder, with clothier Damon Marsh, of Specht Clothing Company, on the west side of Main Street, north of the 1st National Bank in Conrad, Iowa. They sold men's & boys' clothes & furnishings.

George's obituary:
George Samuel Specht, 92, 309 B Ave East, Oskaloosa, Iowa, died Saturday at the Mahaska County Hospital. Born Nov 9, 1884 in Marshall County the son of Joseph Specht and Louisa (Coulter) Specht. He was an agent for the Railway Express Agency in Oskaloosa from 1927 until his retirement in 1949. Before his transfer to Oskaloosa, he was an agent for the Wells Fargo Express Companies, beginning in 1910 in Jefferson, Iowa. Before his agency positions, he worked on farms as a steam engineer and was part-owner of a men's clothing store in Conrad. He married Orra Lee Ames at Marshalltown, Iowa, on April 2, 1914.
Surviving are his widow, one son Gaylord D. Specht of Reseda Calif.; and daughters Mrs. Maurice (Doris) Page, Walsenburg, Colorado; Mrs. Henrik (Esther) Strombotne, Fresno, Calif.; and Miss Jayne Specht of Denver, Colorado, four grandchildren, one brother, Orville Specht, Marshalltown; and two sisters, Mrs. Orville Schaefer, Des Moines, and Mrs. Haswell Rucker of Cresco.
Service will be held at the Conrad, Iowa Cemetery at 2 p.m. Tuesday with burial to follow. Rev. Keith Kirk of Oskaloosa Friends Church will officiate. The Power Funeral home in Oskaloosa is in charge of arrangements.
