Locust Dale Man Killed At Potts Mine
Frank Shaffer, 41 years old, of Locust Dale, was fatally injured at Potts colliery, at 7:10 o'clock this morning. He was employed as a fire boss in the third lift of the Mammoth bottom and made a trip from one level to the other. When he alighted from the gun boat he gave the engineer the signal to lower the boat.
After he rang the bell he missed his footing and fell to the pit below and was crushed by the gun boat when it descended. His left leg and shoulder were broken and he was badly injured about the head. He was taken to the State Hospital at Fountain Springs, where he died at eleven o'clock.
Mr. Shaffer was born at Girardville, but resided at Locust Dale many years. He is survived by his widow and two children.
