William was born in Totford Hampshire in 1884. He was the son of Henry Lansley and Fanny nee Burden He was Baptized in Bighton Church on 4 November 1884. He never married. He was killed at the Battle of Coronel off the coast of Chile on 1st November 1914, when his ship the HMS Good Hope was torpedoed and sunk by the enemy. He is remembered on the War Memorial at Southsea common Portsmouth and also the Roll of Honour at St John's Church Winchester, Hampshire.
