U. S. Grant Allen, 69, check-weighman for the Buckeye Coal and Coke Company died at 6:30 last evening at his home in Bramwell, a victim of pneumonia.
Mr. Allen has been a resident of Bramwell for the past eleven years and was well known in this section. He was a native of Nelson County, Va., born January 1, 1868, he was a son of the late George Givens and Jane Sholts Woods Allen.
Mr. Allen was a member of the Methodist Church and the UMWA.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Bramwell Methodist Church at 2:30 Saturday afternoon, by the pastor, the Rev. Holdway, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Jewell of Montcalm.
Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, who before marriage was, Miss Rhoda Reed and the following children: Vivian Ray Allen of Newhall; George, Sam, Howard, Frank, Forest and Donald Allen all of Bramwell; Mrs. T.G. Owens of Maybeury; Mrs. W.P Bennett , Mrs. A.M. Goins, Mrs. C.C. Hatter, all of Bramwell, Mrs. Forest Dunn of Waynesboro, Va..
Flowerbearers will be grandsons of the deceased; William Richard Bennett, Vivian, Clarence, Everett and Billy Allen, Jack Owens, Baker Henderson, Howard Goins, Douglas Allen, Kenneth, Ezra, and Ellis Steele.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Emory Dunigan, Oscar Harman, Alex Nowel, Howard Rigney, L.J. Wagner, Vester Johnson, Bob Mahaffey, Walter Mahaffey, George Cowan, Mack Shrader, Bob Rigney, John Goins, Dick Foster, Jesse Hill, Dr. H.B. Luttrell, Leonard Boley, Ed Shrader, Sheffey Little, John Beckman, Walter Johnson, W.O. Miller, C.E. Cumby, Paul Pack and Jim Rigney.

Sudden Death:
The community was shocked at the sudden death of U.S. Grant Allen on Thursday night. While it was well known he was sick, his friends did not realize he was in critical condition. His funeral service was conducted from the Methodist Church Saturday afternoon by the pastor the Rev. H. O Holdway, appropriate musical selections were sung by the choir. Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery on the Bluefield-Bramwell Road.
