"Washingtonville - Jonathan Longbottom, 81, one of the oldest and best known residents of the village, died Saturday in the Salem city hospital of complications following a surgical operation. He was a native of England but most of his life was spent here. On April 18 he and his wife celebrated there 60th wedding anniversary. He was a member of the Leetonia Masonic Lodge and Washingtonville lodge of Knights of Pythians. He is survived by his widow and four daughters. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Methodist church, burial in the local cemetery."

Jonathan was the son of John Longbottom and Mary Ann Hopton. He married Elizabeth M Paisley in 1870. They were the parents of eight children: Mary A, Sarah Jane, William E, Martha Avrintha, Fredrick Wilbert, Edith Mae, Margaret Ellen and Elizabeth Emily.
