Dad graduated from Lincoln High School in 1943 and joined the Merchant Marines. He was commissioned as Ensign in the Navy in St. Petersburg, Florida. The Naval Station was taken over by the Army and he was then commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. He served overseas during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1947 with the rank of Captain. He married his high school sweetheart Shirley Dee Andrews on January 18, 1944, their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple.
Upon his release from the Army he enjoyed peddling fruit with his Dad, he started his career at Geneva Steel and retired in 1984, He loved boating, hunting, camping and traveling with his wife Shirley in their R.V. spending many winters in Yuma and making many friends. Dad enjoyed attending the temple in his later years.
He is survived by his 6 children: Richard (Sally) Edwards of Orem, Bill (Judy) Edwards of St. George; Connie (Craig) Lamoreaux of Pleasant Grove; Steven Edwards of Sacramento, CA, Bruce (Denise) Edwards of Provo; Peggy (Ron) Ash of Payson. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, 6 sisters and 3 brothers. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, 2 grandsons, 3 brothers and 1 sister.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lakeside 1st Ward Chapel, 131 South 1600 West, Provo. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street, Orem and also Thursday at the ward chapel from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery in Provo.
