The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Carl G. Theobald (ASN: 2257163), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Intelligence Section, 1st Battalion, 361st Infantry Regiment, 91st Division, A.E.F., near Gesnes, France, 10 October 1918. While on a liaison patrol Corporal Theobald and Private Ivan Y. Bailey attacked and captured a hostile machine-gun nest and its entire crew.

Carl George Theobald, age 86, died February 22, 1983 at the West Millard Hospital, Delta, Utah.

He was born May 31, 1896 in Hinckley, Utah to T. George and Agnes Ettie Elder Theobald. He married Florence LaVern Croft June 22, 1917 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Carl was a Veteran of W.W. I, he received the Distinguished Service Cross. He was a charter member of the American Legion and west Millard Barracks W.W. I. Served as sheriff of Millard County, 1927-1935, member of the Deseret Irrigation Board, Drainage Board, County School Board. He was an active member of the LDS Church as a High Priest. He and his wife served in the Cumorah Mission at the age of 75, they also participated in the Cumorah Pageant.

He is survived by his wife and 9 children: Mrs. Fred (Elaine) Turner, Delta; Leon, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Blair (Eda) Maxfield, Cedar City; Milton Verrue, Mrs. Marion (Joyce) Manwill, Payson; Grace Waldram, Bountiful; Paul, Orem; Golden, Las Vegas; Merlin, St. George. Two sisters: Edna Fuller, Seattle, Washington; Arvilla Swenson Lovell, Hinckley. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Weldon and Harold; two sisters: Elma Secherogonsch and Lizette Erickson. He is also survived by 34 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held Friday evening at Nickle Mortuary and one hour prior to services Saturday. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 1983.
