John S. Richmond, 84, Dies at Home Saturday
Funeral services were conducted this afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Home for John S. Richmond, 84, who died at his home on the Richmond farm on New River near Hinton Saturday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock of a heart attack.
The Rev. H. P. Hackney officiated assisted by Rev. D. C. Craft and burial was made in the Elk Knob cemetery.
Mr. Richmond had been in usual health until two weeks ago when he suffered a slight heart attack, however, he continued his duties around the farm. A second heart attack Saturday was instantly fatal.
Born February 1868 on the Richmond farm where he had spent his entire life, he was a son of the late William C. and Christinia Fleshman Richmond, and was a member of the Elk Knob Baptist church.
He was employed by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway company as a fireman in 1903 and promoted to an engineer in 1906. After retiring in 1939, he had been actively engaged in farming.
Mr. Richmond was the last surviving member of his generation of the family and his only immediate survivor is his widow, Mrs. Zora Wheeler Richmond.
