MRS. IRWIN, 81, TAKEN BY DEATH

Mrs. Laura Alice Irwin, 81 years old, of this city, daughter of the late William and Christiana Richmond, and wife of the late Samuel T. Irwin, died at her home on Summers street at 6:50 o'clock Tuesday morning of a heart ailment and complications.

Mrs. Irwin had been in ill health for the past several months and had been a patient in the Hinton hospital for several weeks until she was removed to her home.

She was born in Fayette county, Virginia, in 1862, before the state was divided. Her parents were pioneer residents of this section and her brother still resides on the old home place, the Richmond farm. Another brother, Marshall Richmond, preceded her in death a month ago.

Mrs. Irwin came to this city as a bride 60 years ago. She was the oldest member of the First Christian church, having joined 42 years ago. She was active in civic affairs, having at one time served on the city council.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. F. F. Fink, of Peru, Indiana, Mrs. Billie Irwin Gilbert, of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. F. A. Martin, of this city; brother John R. Richmond, of near here, and a sister, Mrs. E. T. Hinton, of this city, a son, C. B. Irwin, preceded her in death. Also surviving are six grand-daughters, miss Zola Fink, of Los Angels, Calif., Misses Juanita and Patricia Gilbert, of Glendale, Calif., Mrs. Cyril Robrecht, of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Mrs. Jack Thomas, of Beckley.

The body was taken to her home on Summers street until time for the funeral service, which were held at the First Christian church at 2:00 o'clock Thursday afternoon with the pastor, Rev. J. S. Schnedl, officiating. Burial followed in the Greenbrier cemetery.

Active pallbearers were W. L. Meadows, R. E. Keffer, E. L. Craddock, E. L. Helms, L. E. Cales and R. F. Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers named were C. C. Bowman, D. E. Martin, W. J. Martin, R. M. Deeds, W. H. Thompson, Lee Williams, J. K. Dawson, S. Arthur, W. T. Fredekin, H. G. Humphries, G. T. Briers, Jack Nottingham, B. F. Hamer, J. E. Donovan and W. H. Arrington.
