Death of Daniel Morgan
Thirty-Eight Years Resident of Grand Passes Away
Daniel Morgan, undoubtedly the father of the largest grown family of children in the city, passed away last evening at his home on East First street at 5:35, with the majority of his children at his bedside. for about two months he had been ailing and his health had been gradually declining due to his age. In the last four weeks he has been quite weak but was never confined to his bed, and though conscious until the last he could not speak on account of weakness.

Daniel Morgan was born May 2, 1826 in Donegal county, Ireland, and would have been 81 years of age this coming May. On reaching the age of 21 years he left his home and came to America. Ten years later, when 31 years of age, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Chapman, in Pennsylvania, and then moved to St. Cathrine, Mo., where he conducted a grocery business. Eleven years later, with his wife and six children, he moved to Nebraska, coming to Grand Island in the year 1869, and has made this city his home ever since. Mr. Morgan followed the grocery business here for many years, as will well be remembered by residents of that time. He took up various lines of occupation, having charge of the city scales for a number of years, including the time of W. H. Thompson's administration. He also was assessor and in later years took the school census. For about six years he has lived the retired life. Mr. Morgan was a staunch member of the Presbyterian church, of which he has been an elder for nearly thirty years. He was also a member of the Masonic fraternity.

It was on April 25, 1894, that Mrs. Morgan passed away, exactly twenty-five years after the Morgan family landed in Nebraska. The family has been kept together very well and the memorable family reunions held have been of considerable note. Thirteen children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Morgan, all of whom are living excepting two, most of them in this city. They are: Mrs. James C. Pederson and Mrs. Oscar Wells of this city, H. N. Morgan of Oelwein, Iowa, George Morgan of this city, Charles T. Morgan of Los Angeles, J. D. Morgan of Moberly, Mo., Ross and Walter Morgan of this city, Fred Morgan of Kimball, Neb., and Arthur Morgan and Mrs. Dorthy Evans of Grand Island. all the children excepting one son will be in the city to attend the funeral. Arrangements for the funeral, of which the Masons will have charge, will be announced later.
