Golda Jean Keith went to be with her Lord on May 26,2013. She would like her family, friends, and other loved ones to know she was ready, recently reminding us of Psalm 118:24 "This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it." Golda lead a life that most can only imagine.

Family services are being held at the Anchorage Funeral Home. All are invited to the Turn Again Church of Christ, 5441 Old Seward Highway at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 30, 2013, to share memories and refreshments. Golda will be cremated and her ashes spread in the beauty of her adopted state.

Golda was born to Jesse and Rachael Haskins at Ball Creek Arkansas in 1924, the youngest of the brood. After high school she was an apple picker and orchard thinner in eastern Washington state where she traveled with her sister's family. Following that she was a "Rosie the riveter," working for the Spartan aircraft company to earn money to go to nursing school until the Bolton Bill made the Nurse Cadet Corps a reality. Golda was accepted to and graduated from the Baylor School of nursing in 1946 then moved on to practice in government service "out West" in California, Hawaii, Idaho and Alaska. She was proud to say she worked in both Alaska and Hawaii when they were still territories, though she visited both after they gained statehood. Her only promise to her dad upon heading to the great north was she would bring him home an Eskimo. And she did. She met our dad Axel in Bethel, Alaska and married him in 1949.

Golda traveled the tundra in the 1940s and 1950s as a village nurse healing the sick and delivering babies. Even as late as 2004 she met people whom she'd delivered and who remembered her name. During all this she bore four children of her own. Gary and Gail were born in Bethel. Terry and David were born in Sitka/Mt. Edgecumbe. Axel and Golda took their family outside, settling in western Washington State. She met and Married Troy Keith following her divorce from Dad, and she and Troy traveled the world. After Troy passed on, Golda moved back up north to be near most of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a resident of Anchorage, still loving the North and still advocating for the native people at her death. Mom was a faithful and lifelong member of the church of Christ.

Arrangements were cared for by the Anchorage Funeral Home & Crematory. Please visit Golda's obituary and online guestbook at www.AlaskanFuneral.com
