Hazel was married three times. Her first marriage was to Florance Smith, who grew up living near the Lightowlers in New England Hollow. Hazel & Florance married 13 July 1929 and lived on New England Road, where the two also ran a bar. Florance passed away in 1945.
After Florance's death, Hazel briefly moved to New York to work for a Dr. Robert Heath. She left for Yonkers in April of 1946.
By 1948, Hazel had returned to Pennsylvania. On January 24, 1948, she married Charles Elijah Shaw in Dravosburg, Pennsylvania. Charles was a druggist and owned a drug store on North Sixth Street in Clairton (this drug store would later become Turek's and Triangle Dairy). Charles passed away in 1955, and Hazel continued running the store for some years after his death.
On September 2, 1960, Hazel married James Alfred King in Winchester, Virginia.
Hazel had no children, but treated her nieces and nephews as her own children. My grandmother, Shirley (Hazel's niece), spoke extremely fondly of her. Hazel let Shirley work in her store when she needed a job, and helped my grandparents get on their feet after they first married.
Hazel died in McKeesport Hospital (McKeesport, Pennsylvania) of colon cancer on February 19, 1961. She is buried in the Lightowler family plot in Lebanon Church Cemetery, alongside her first husband, Florance.
