Born in Salem, NJ, he was the son of the late Herbert and Katie (Owens) Henderson.
Allen was a graduate of Salem High School, class of 1948. He then proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1950. After discharge from the Navy, Allen found employment with Acme Markets, first as a meat cutter, then later as a meat manager, retiring with 35 years of service. When Allen moved to New Providence, he found employment with Willow Valley Communities, working in security and transportation, and he retired with 22 years of service.
Coming from a large family with humble beginnings, Allen learned how to work at a young age and was always active with something to do. He was a gifted singer and guitar player. In his younger days, Allen had a country-western band, Al & the Echoes. After trusting Christ to be his Lord and Savior, Allen had a ministry of traveling and singing gospel music. Allen's main hobby was archery. He enjoyed archery hunting and archery competitions, making it to nationals on a few occasions, and at one time he had his own archery business.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Albert R. Henderson, of New Providence. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 brother and 11 sisters.
