Thanks to Randy Love for posting Colbert's obituary. Randy also provided some comments when he left a flower in honor of Colbert, which help provide a brief glimpse into Colbert's life. Randy wrote:
"Colbert was my Uncle and lived very close to me when I was growing up. He spent a lot of time helping out my dad. He was a funny man to be around, always happy, always laughing. He always wore overalls and a cowboy hat, I never saw him in anything else. He didn't drive so you would see him walking all over the Ardmore/Dickson community.

He loved dogs, I remember as a kid he was sitting outside under a shade tree talking to the dogs and they were all sitting and listening to him. I went in the house and told my mom it looked like they understood him, my mom told me they did understand him and that he understood them. To this day, I do believe it was true."

Colbert parents were:
Mose Love (1881 - 1959)
Addie Ford Love (1886 - 1912)

His siblings were:
Charles R Love (1906 - 1906)
Edna Love (1908 - 1912)

On May 13, 1910,
Mose & Addie Love, ages 29 & 24, were renting a home in Wilson, Carter Co, OK. They had been married 5 years; Addie had given birth to 2 children, but only 1 was living - Edna, age 1. Mose was a farmer.

Their son, Charles, was born & died in 1926.

Colbert, the last of his siblings, was born in Provence, OK on May 26, 1911. His mother died on Nov. 16, 1912, at which time she & his father were no longer together. Later that month Colbert's sister, Edna, was burned to death while staying with her Love grandparents.

"The little girl of Mose Love was so badly burned one day last week as to cause her death in a short while. She was playing near a fire in the yard when her clothing caught on fire. Her grandmother, Mrs. Bill Love, burned her hands painfully in trying to save the child. The child's mother, Mrs. Addie Love, died suddenly about two weeks ago. Our sympathy is with the bereaved family."

Although, unknown, it appears that Colbert stayed with his Love grandparents after his mother died.

Colbert's father married Mary Barthenia White in February 1915.

On February 11, 1920,
Colbert, age 9, lived with his grandparents, William & Hettie, on a farm they were renting in Wilson Township, in Carter Co, OK.

In April 1930 he & his grandparents were living with his uncle, Robert Love.

"On April 23, 1930,
Colbert, age 18, lived on a farm in Wilson Township, Carter Co, OK with his uncle & aunt, Robert L. & Ethel Love, ages 35 & 29. Other members of the family included Colbert's grandparents, William J. & Hettie J. Love, ages 78 & 66 (Robert's parents), as well as his cousins, children of Robert & Ethel who were James T., age 10; Ray, 8; Robert, 6; Odis, 4 years & 2 months; and Billie J., 2 years & 1 month.

Robert farmed to help support his large family.

"Pat Cotton, 4, was being entertained by his Uncle, Colbert Love, who was having a hard time getting the youngster away from the Santa characters. Pat is the son of the Doyce Cottons who live on the Hoxbar route."

Colbert was mentally handicapped. I can recall his half-sister, Etta Rachel, telling a little about him; that he had died as the results of a house fire.
