Jacob was the son of Mary Swoyer, found in the 1860 and 1880 census of Maxatawny, Berks County, Pennsylvania.
He married on October 5, 1873, to Louisa Deisher.
They appear in the 1880 through 1910 census of Maxatawny, Berks County, Pennsylvania. He was a farmer.
In 1920 they were living in Kutztown, Berks County, Pennsylvania.

Patriot, December 23, 1920:
Jacob S. Swoyer, retired Maxatawny farmer, died on Monday, at his residence on East Main street,of diabetes, aged 71 years, 11 months. He had been in failing health for about six month, but bedfast only a week. He was widely known and respected. He was a member of the governing board of Hope Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Louisa (nee Deisher), and the following sons and daughters: Walter, Bowers; Mary, married to William Wolfe, Reading; Ida, at home; Oscar and Jacob, Kutztown; Howard, and Carrie, married to Chas. Dougherty, Topton; Cora, married to Clinton Bausher, Kutztown; Minnie; at home, and Elton, living on the old homestead. The funeral will be held tomorrow (Friday), at 1:30 p. m.., from his last residence. The main service will be held at St. John's Union Church, with interment in Hope Cemetery. Rev. J. W. Bittner will officiate. Undertaker George R. Schaeffer has charge of the remains.
