Elwood was the son of Jacob S. Swoyer and Louisa Deisher.

THROWN FROM HORSE AND KILLED; Elwood, the fourteen year old son of Jacob Swoyer, residing in Maxatawny near Kemps hotel, met with a fatal accident on sunday. Mr. Swoyer is obliged to water his stock on account of the drought at Jonathan Bieber's a neighbor. The son led two horses by the halter to Biebers and on his return he jumped on one of the horses which became unmanageable,Throwing the lad off at a sharp corner at a shed at his father's place. He struck the back part of his head against the ground causing a concussion and compression of the brain from which he died a few hours later. Drs. J. S. Trexler and Austin Hottenstein were hastily summoned, but the suffer had passed beyond medical aid. later undertaker D. W. Sheradin was summoned who will have charge of the funeral on Thursday forenoon. Funeral in St. John's Union church by Rev. J.J. Cressman.
