Andrew was the eldest of eleven children born to Andrew Gardner and Elizabeth Taphorn. On 17 Apr 1945 he married Clara Ackermann and they had three children: Andrew, Bernard, and Mary. He was the former owner of the old Haymarket Grill. He died at his home at the age of 84.
