COURIER JOURNAL OBITUARY – 09/18/1986
Nellis J. Gardner, 72, of Audubon Park, died Wednesday [September 17, 1986] at his home. He was past president and owner of Nellis Gardner Auto Sales, a member of the board of directors of the Credit Clearing House of America and past president of Kentucky Collectors Association. He was a member of American Collectors Association, Downtown Optimist Club, Louisville Business Men's Club, Audubon Country Club, St. Joseph Orphan's Society and Knights of Columbus. He was recreational director of the Audubon chapter of the American Association of Retired People and pastoral assistant at Humana Hospital-Audubon. Survivors include three daughters, Judy Kiesler of New Albany, Karen Beach and Martha Steimel; four sons, Dick, Jim, John & Michael Gardner; six sisters, Colletta M. Deddens of Palmyra, IN, Evelyn S. Lloyd, Mary M. Kadler, Sister Vera B. Gardner, Marie S. Krupp and Dolores T. Hornung; three brothers, Andrew J., Joseph E. & John T. Gardner; and 20 grandchildren. The body was donated to the University of Louisville School of Medicine. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen Martyr Catholic Church, Hess Lane and Pindell Avenue. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the pastoral care office of Catholic Charities.
