He was a proud Veteran of WWII, having served overseas for three years in the Medical Corps, 216th General Hospital. After the war he and Una lived in Waterbury, CT. and then Prospect, CT. until her death in 1977. He worked at Waterbury Rolling Mills for 43 years. After his retirement, Gil loved working in his garden and spending time with his son Scott and grandchildren Heather, Lauren and Andy Anderson and their mother Carrie and grandson David Gelinas and his wife Lisa.
He was a resident of Prospect for over 48 years, where he leaves many friends. In 2007, he moved to Millinocket to live with his daughter Donna and her husband Ron Gelinas (and their pets). He enjoyed spending time at their camp, eating English muffins, and playing cribbage whenever anyone offered, including their daughter Lori Strobeck and her husband Rick. Also of Millinocket, his son Brian and his wife, Gerri and their children, Michelle Charette and her husband Gary and Daniel Anderson and his wife Amy were glad to have him close by to be able to visit with him and listen to his many interesting stories. Gil was a son, brother, husband, dad, pop, grampy, papa, great-grampy, uncle and friend.
He is survived by a daughter and two sons, Donna Gelinas and husband Ronald, Brian Anderson and wife Germaine, all of Millinocket, and Scott Anderson of Prospect, CT.
He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, David Gelinas and wife Lisa, Michelle Charette and husband Gary, Lori Strobeck and husband Eric, Daniel Anderson and wife Amy, Heather Anderson, Lauren Anderson and Scott(Andy) Anderson; as well as six great-grandchildren, who all thought he was someone special, Christopher and Lauren Gelinas, Evan and Kacie McLaughlin and Makayla and Molly Anderson.
Every year Gil looked forward to his family reunion in Caribou, where he could spend time with his brothers and sisters and their children.
He is survived by two sisters, Betty Tibbetts of Millinocket (with whom he enjoyed spending many hours on her front porch talking and reminiscing) and Zelda Wilcox and her husband, George of Westbrook and two brothers, Merrill Anderson and his wife Delila, of Caribou and Simon Elbridge Anderson of Berwick and a sister-in-law Ruth Alley and her husband Howard of Millinocket; as well as many nieces and nephews, including Dolores, Nancy and Susan, who are always there when you need them.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Earl, Chester and Ernest and five sisters Levercie Gamblin, Gertrude York, Lulu Dyer, Marietta Sullivan and Ethel Nutting.
We will miss you Dad ... 92 years wasn't enough.
Graveside services with military honors will be held in Millinocket Cemetery on Friday, December 2, 2011 at 2:00PM. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket. (Bio provided by Robert Hodsdon.)
