Monday, September 28, 1953 Mt. Grove Journal--Benjamin Franklin, Passed Away, Services Held This Afternoon

Benjamin R. Franklin age 67, a highly respected citizen of Mountain Grove, passed away Friday evening September 25, at Webb City, Missouri in the hospital. He had been ill for the past six months. Mr. Franklin was born and reared in Mountain Grove and with the exception of the past six years when he lived in Springfield has always resided in this community. His wife, the late May (Lillie)Robinett Franklin, passed away May 13, 1940, following which time Mr. Franklin continued to maintain a good Christian home for his large family and lived to see each of them grown. He is survived by nine sons and four daughters: Clifford of Mountain Grove, Loyd, Elmer and Bobby all of Kansas City, Raymond of Richmond, Calif., Elvin of Hastings, Nebraska, Rex of Springfield, Roy of the United States Air Force, George of the United States Army, Mrs. Maney Bennett, Macomb, Mo, Mrs. Elva Wright, Springfield, Mo, Mrs. Thelma Cooper, Glendale, California, Mrs. Barbara Adams of Springfield, Mo. His is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Anna Benard, Los Angeles, California, Mrs. Cora Freeman, Mountain Grove, four brothers, George of Topeka, Kansas, Bert of Mountain Grove, Jim of Salt Lake City, Utah and Alma of the State of Oregon. There are seventeen grandchildren and three great grand-children many more distant relatives and close friends. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in the Barber Funeral Chapel with Reverend Homer Smith officiating. The Christian Church quartet accompanied by Miss Jane Thomas rendered appropriate hymns. Interment was made in the Mountain Valley Cemetery under direction of the Barber Funeral Home.
