The author of this memorial drove to Joliet, Illinois seeking more information. I was emailed an obituary from Will County Courthouse stating Mary died at St. Joseph's Hospital in Joliet with Grants Westwood Funeral Home making arrangements.

I drove to Will County Clerk's Office in Joliet. I purchased a death certificate which states the informant was Ann McCullough, daughter of Mary Holzhauer.
White, American, widowed
Mary is listed as a homemaker, having lived at 256 Nicholson in Joliet.
dob: Sept. 11, 1895 in Illinois to John Rapp and Anna Boston
dod: June 15, 1985; age 89; died at 8:45 a.m. at St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Will, Illinois of Digitalis Toxicity due to Congestive Heart Failure, Hypertensive Heart Disease and Arteriosclerotic Heart Disease with Senile Dementia as a significant condition.
She was cremated at Woodlawn in Joliet on June 17, 1985; Westwood Memorial Chapel; 3201 W. Jefferson St.; Joliet, IL 60435 and signed by Harry Grant.

Upon visiting the establishment at that address, I discovered the name has been changed to Farkas Funeral Home. The secretary found records were from Memorial Park Cemetery who did the cremation. I went there and was told there are no death or burial records on file. However, officially, she was cremated there, but no burial was made. She said someone must have taken the ashes upon cremation, but records do not say who was given the ashes.

Judy (Rapp) Johnson, Mary's great niece, believes family lore is that Mary Holzhauer was cremated, and her daughter threw her ashes by John and Anna's gravesite at Memorial Park in Pontiac.
