Sioux Center Resident Was Early Settler In Sioux Co.
Mrs. D. Lammers, pioneer Sioux Center resident, died Saturday after an illness of long duration, at the age of 72 years.
Mrs. Lammers, nee Hermina Neikamp, was born in The Netherlands on August 27th, 1863. She came to the United States with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gt. Neikamp, at the age of four years.
The family lived in Michigan for six months, in Virginia for two years, and in New Jersey for a year. In 1887 they came to Sioux county, homesteading on a farm between Maurice and Sioux Center.
She was married to Dirk Lammers and eleven children were born to the union, as follows: John Lammers, Alton; Jennie (Mrs. John Addink), Henry Lammers, Alice (Mrs. Art F. Franken) all of Sioux Center; Wm. Lammersof Sheldon, Ralph lammers, Hattie (Mrs. B. Van Donge)), and Johanna (Mrs. L. Klein), all of Sioux Center. Mr. Lammers survives his wife.
One child died at the age of six months, a daughter, Lizzie, passed on fifteen years ago and a son, Gerrit Lammers, eight years ago.
There are thirty-seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mrs. Lammers distinctly remembered the early ravages of the grasshopper scourge and the vicissitudes encountered by the pioneer families. Schooled by the hardships and selfdenials of those trying times her life was a splendid example of devoted motherhood.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Lammers home in Sioux Center and the Second Christ. Reformed church in charge of Rev. Dykstra.
