Christian Schmahl,75, life-long resident of Town Rhine died suddenly of a heart attack while at work on his farm near Elkhart Lake at 11:30 a.m., Monday.
He was born 7th April, 1882, on the Schmahl homestead in Town Rhine, the son of Henry and Katherine Schmahl. After attending the rural grade school, he studied at Mission House Academy and later took an agriculture course at Madison, specializing in the making of cheese. He assisted his father in cheese making which he did in addition to opersting the farm.
In 1907, the cheese factory was sold and the family devoted all its time to the farm. After the death of the father in 1911, the family continued operation of the homestead farm until 1935, when Mrs.Schmahl died. Since then the farm has been managed by the Schmahl brothers.
Mr. Schmahl was a member of Community Evangelical and Reformed Church at Elkhart Lake. He had been confirmed at Trinity church, Town rhine, in 1896 by the Rev.E.Stienecker.
Survivors are two brothers, Fred on the homestead and the Rev.Carl Schmahl, Town Mosel; and two sisters, Mrs.Philip Kuhn, Elkhart Lake, and Miss Minnie Schmahl, at home. His parents and five sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2p.m., Thursday, at the Community Evangelical and Reformed Church, Elkhart Lake. the Rev.Paul A.Olm will officaiate and burial will be in Trinity Cemetery, Town Rhine.
Friends may call at the Raeder Funeral Home at Elkhart Lake from Wednesday noon until 11 a.m., Thursday, and at the church from noon until the time of the services.
