Harvey Edward French, 47, Raymondville, died four hours after being injured in a car tractor-trailer accident yesterday afternoon, July 20,1960 on Route 56 near the new housing development two-tenths of a mile north of Raymondville. Mr. French died at 4:35 p.m. in Massena Memorial Hospital where he had been taken earlier in critical condition suffering from multiple fracture of the ribs, punctured left lung, contusions of the chest, laceration, of the scalp, severe shock. The accident occured at 12:45 p.m., on the crown of the hill immediately-south of the Raymondville bridge. . Mr. French was rushed to the hospital in the-Reagan ambulance. Driving alone, he was south bound on the highway. Mr. French had worked in the pot rooms at the Alcoa plant for about 20 years. He was on the midnight shift. Apparently he had business to attend to in Massena after coming off work, Wednesday morning. He was en-route home at the time of the accident. He was born in the township of Norfolk, Nov. 11, 1912, a son of the late Homer and Mary Deroushie French.
He attended schools in that area and on Aug. 29, 1935 he married Miss Marion Delosh, Norfolk. The ceremony was performed in St. Raymond's Church in Raymondville. They lived in Massena and Norfolk before moving to Raymondville. Surviving are his wife; three sons, Richard 16, Ronald 15, and Lee 11; four brothers, Francis and Melvin French, both of Massena, Robert French, Waddington, and Wilfred French, Syracuse; Five sisters, Mrs. Leonard (Helen) Brothers, Potsdam, Mrs. Donald (Marion) Jackson, Winthrop, Mrs. Wayne (Hattie) Stark, Winthrop Road, Mrs. Robert (Ida) Shantie, Niagara Falls, and Mrs. Everrett ( Louise) Munson, Sanfordville. A brother, Arthur Homer French, 26, Buckton, was killed in a head on collision on the Winthrop Fort Jackson Highway June 2, 1957. An autopsy is being performed to determine the exact cause of death, after which the body will be released to the Philliops Memorial Home. Further arrangements were to be made today.
