AGED HAGER CITIZEN CALLED BY DEATH

On Jan. 14, 1929, the Death Angel took from our midst another aged citizen, when father Doss Adkins, 67 years old, died at his home near Hager, this county. He is survived by his wife and nine children, They are, William Adkins, Spry Adkins and Mrs. Leslie Smith, of Smithsferry, Pa., Mrs. Geneva Coffee, of Kentucky, Mrs. Mary Skeens, of Wayne, W.Va, Sam, Ben, Tiny and Mrs. Myrtle Adams, of Hager. He was from a large family, all of whom are well known in this county. His father was "Squire" Jim Adkins, one of the first settlers on Big Laurel Creek. His brothers and sisters are Ambrose Adkins, Alpheus Adkins, Walker Adkins, Mrs. Bob Adkins (Rhoda) and Mrs. Walter Cooper (Lillie), of Hager; R.D. Adkins, of Hamlin, John Adkins, of Ona, Mrs. W.L. Adkins (Jerusha), of Hamlin; Mrs. R.L. Stowers (Edna), of Hager. During his illness he accepted Christ as his Savior, and made a request of members of his family that they meet him in Heaven. He told the writer one month before he died that he was ready to go. The funeral services were conducted at the home by Bros. E.L. Adkins and Ebb Cummings.

The stars shall shine for a thousand years, A thousand years and a day; But God and I will love and live, When the stars are passed away.

NOTE: His wife was Martha Strickland. He was preceeded in death, in 1927, by a sister, Almeda Adkins and by his mother Docia Adkins. His death cert. says he was a son of Lovey Plumley, Lovey Plumley Adkins was his grandmother.
