Fred Dinkel, Ellis, Ks., 72, died Tuesday, March 26, 1985 at home. He was born March 22, 1913 south of Ellis to Andrew and Clara (Nemechek) Dinkel.

He married Catherine Flax Sept. 13, 1938 in Ellis.

He was a retired farmer and stockman. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and third-and-fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors: wife of the home; seven sons, Harold, Freddy, Chester and Mike, all of Ellis; Edward, Salina; Henry, Sharon Springs; Steven, Hays; seven daughters, Bernadette Dinkel of the home; Helen Fischer and Marjorie Mickelson, both of Ellis; Virginia Weigel, Henryetta, Okla.; Marilyn Denning, Russell; Vera Haver, Elroy, Wis.; Kathleen Blake, Burlington, Iowa; eight brothers, Joe and Dan Hoffman, both of Hays; Mike Hoffman, Garden City; Victor, Frank, Robert Hoffman, all of Victoria; Tony Hoffman, Dodge City; Steve Hoffman, Gorham; six sisters, Helen Kreutzer, LaCrosse; Anna Stegman, Bison; Aggie Geier, Garden City; Maggie Dreiling, Denver; Rita Friess, Spearville; Betty Flax, Dodge City; 36 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Berniece, and a son, Fred Jr.

Services Thursday at the church and burial in the church cemetery.
