Evelyn Eleanor Hass, 88, died on Thursday morning, 24 February 2005, at the Calumet Homestead Rehabilitation Center, in New Holstein, where she resided for the past nine years.

Evelyn was born on 24 February 1917, in the Town of Schleswig in Manitowoc County, the daughter of the late William and Martha (née Suhr) Mathes. Evelyn attended school in the Town of New Holstein.

On 23 April 1938, she married Raymond Hass at the church rectory at St. John's United Church of Christ, New Holstein. Her husband, Raymond, preceded her in death on 3 February 1998.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed at Leverenz Shoe Company, Christel's Department Store, and Leons/Beacon, all in New Holstein. Evelyn belonged to the Tuesday evening card club, enjoying as she did playing cards as well as bingo, and knitting, watching sports on TV, and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Sharon (Gerald) Hoehl of Eau Claire; Ronald (Pat) Hass of Sheboygan Falls; James (Sue) Hass of Elkhart Lake;  Beverly (Jef) Goebel of St. Cloud; and Nancy (Rich) Halfmann of New Holstein. She is further survived by 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Luetta Wollersheim of New Port Richey, Florida.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, JoAnn, and one granddaughter, Kathleen Hass, as well as five brothers; and four sisters.

Services: Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home in Kiel. Burial will take place at the New Holstein City Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in her name. Evelyn's family would like to thank the staff at Calumet Homestead Rehabilitation Center and Rachael Schroeder of Affinity Hospice for the wonderful care shown to Evelyn and to Rev. Raymond C. Coombs for his comforting words.
