Arvin Mathes, 56, of Steinthal in the town of Easton, Manitowoc County, died suddenly at his home Tuesday. He operated a tavern at Steinthal for 29 years and a milk rout for 23 years. He was born June 17, 1903 in the town of Schleswig, the son of William and Martha Suhr Mathes. He attended school in the township and on April 29, 1930, he married Esther Loerche of Potter at the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church in Kiel. The couple lived in Steinthal since their marriage. He was a member of the St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church, the GUG Germania Society in Chilton, the Kiel branch of the Improved Order of Redmen and of the Lodge's 24 Hour Club.
Survivors include his wife, one son, George A. of Kiel, three grandchildren and his mother, Mrs. Martha Mathes of New Holstein. He also is survived by five sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Clarence Strassmann and Mrs. Ray Hass both of New Holstein; Mrs. Norman Gutschow of R. 2, Kiel, and Mrs.
Alfred Wollersheim of Manitowoc; Lester of St. Anna, Reuben of Kiel and Clarence of Woodstock, Ill. He was preceded in death by his father, one brother and one sister.

Funeral services for Arvin Mathes, 56, of R. 1, Kiel, who died a week ago, were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Kiel.
The Rev. Vernon E. Jaberg, pastor, officiated and burial was in Rockville Cemetery.
During the service, Mrs. Howard Vorpahl, organist, accompanied Kenneth W., soloist, who sang "Some Day," and "Softly and Tenderly."
Pallbearers were Gilbert Dedering, Robert Gutschow, Carl and Earl Mathes, James Miller and Orville Valenstein.
