Arthur Homer French was one of the eleven children of Homer and Mary Derochie French. He grew up in Norfolk and graduated from Nofolk High School.

Arthur enlisted in the US army on October 28, 1948 and received his honorable discharge on June 19, 1952, He was a member of A Battery of the Fifth Field Artillery Battalion and spent four years serving in occupied Germany after World War II. After leaving the army, Arthur worked for the Dairymen's League plant in Massena, and later on the St. Lawrence Seaway Development as a cement finisher. He married Lillian Page in June 1953, and following their marriage they lived on Massena Street in Winthrop. They had a daughter together.

Arthur was killed in a car accident. He was survived by his wife, daughter, father, and ten siblings.
