Joseph A. Bloms was born September 16, 1910, in Muskego Township, Renville County, near Foxholm, North Dakota, the son of William C. and Mathilda (Keller) Bloms. He was reared and educated near Foxholm. During World War II, beginning in 1942, he served with the Army in the Aleutians, Alaska and Germany. After his discharge, he came to Minot where he was in business until moving to Plaza in 1946. He operated a bar at Plaza.

He married Rosemary Schwan January 7, 1948, at Karlsruhe.

Joseph and Rosemary had five children:
