Mrs. Nora Catherine Gunckel Thornhill, wife of Harold Walter "Bill" Thornhill of Rossburg, died at 12:01 a.m. today [13 Jul 1955] at Wayne hospital here after an extended illness.
Mrs. Thornhill, who had spent most of her life in Rossburg, was born and reared at Yorkshire. She was a member of the Rossburg EUB church and Ladies of the Golden Eagle, the Daughters of America at New Weston and the Versailles American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include the husband; three sons, Nelson Walter Thornhill (1916-1995) and George Kenneth Thornhill (1918-2009), both of Rossburg, and Paul Leroy Thornhill (1920-1995) of Dover, Delaware; one daughter, Mrs. Iola Mae Thornhill (Dewey) Mohr (1923-1969) of Tipp City; eleven grandchildren; four brothers, Jennings Gunckle (1897-1975) and Earl Gunckel (1915-1986) of Greenville, Cloyd Gunckle (1901-1965) of Piqua, and Harold Gunckel (1913-1975) of Laura; and seven sisters, Mrs. Irene Youtsey (1893-1972) of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Edith Tuttle (1899-1975), Mrs. Geraldine Baumgardner (1909-2007), and Mrs. Vesta Cunningham (1906-1981), all of Greenville, Mrs. Delsia Smith (1904-1992) of Dayton, Mrs. Leotina Byers (1912-2007) of Arcanum, and Mrs. Georgina Amato (1914-2008) of Chicago, Illinois.
Services will be held Saturday at two p.m. at the Rossburg EUB church with the Reverend Stutzman and the Reverend Noble Schlechty officiating. Burial will be in Greenville cemetery. Friends may call at the Oliver funeral home in Ansonia after 7 p.m. today.
