Mr. Gunckel was born 18 Dec 1915 in Allen Township, near Rossburg, to John Allen (1867-1942) and Mary Scelanda Shappy (1873-1941) Gunckel.
He retired in 1978 from Simms Aluminum Foundry in Winchester, Indiana, and was recently working there part-time. Prior to retirement, he was employed there for 32 years.
Mr. Gunckel was a 27-year member of the Greenville Church of the Nazarene. Preceding him in death were three infant sisters and four adult sisters, Vesta Gunckel Cunningham (1906-1981), Edith Gunckel Tuttle (1899-1975), Nora Gunckel Thornhill (1895-1955), and Irene Gunckel Youtsey (1893-1972); and three infant brothers and three adult brothers, Harold Gunckel (1913-1977), Cloyd Gunckle (1901-1965), and Jennings Gunckel (1897-1975).
Surviving are his wife, Maxine Lyme Gunckel, to whom he was married 04 Oct 1969; two daughters, Helen Arnett of Troy and Mrs. Glen (Karen) Wilson of Dayton; five stepsons, Edward W. Hoffman of Fort Recovery, Duane F. Hoffman of Bradford, Richard Yohey of Ridgeville, Indiana, and Steven Yohey and Dennis Yohey, both of Greenville; four sisters, Delsia Gunckel Smith (1903-1992) of Dayton, Mrs. Clinton (Geraldine Gunckel Baumgardner) Barga (1909-2007) and Leotina Gunckel Byers (1912-2006), both of Greenville, and Georgina Gunckel McMahon (1914-2008) of Yermo, California; one granddaughter; and eleven step-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, 1499 North Broadway, with the Reverend Russell Smith officiating. Burial will be in Harris Creek Cemetery near Bradford.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
