Leotina Mary Louise Gunckel Byers, 93, of Greenville, died 11 Feb 2006, of kidney failure, at Center of Hope, Union City, Ohio.

She was born 18 Dec 1912, in Darke County, Ohio, daughter of the late John Allen (1867-1942) and Mary Scelanda Shappy (1873-1941) Gunckel. She worked at Frigidaire in Dayton, Fram Corporation in Greenville, and Big N Shopping Cemeter in Greenville, and was a member of Greenville Senior Citizens.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Charles Willard "Whitey" Byers (1909-1959), whom she married 12 Jun 1932; and fifteen brothers and sisters.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Richard Willard (1947-2020) and Darlene McGhee Byers of Union City, Ohio; daughter, Mary Elaine Byers Rush of Bellview, Nebraska; grandchildren, Yvonne Rush of Nebraska, Brian Byers of Spanaway, Washington, Timothy Byers of Shelbyville, Indiana, Rob Byers of Union City, Ohio, and Misty Byers Perdue of Graham, Washington; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Geraldine Gunckel Baumgardner Barga (1909-2007) of Greenville and Georgina Gunckel McMahon (1914-2008) of Yermo, California; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at noon Wednesday at Abbottsville Cemetery, Darke County, Ohio, with Reverend Jim Bradshaw officiating. There will be no public visitation. Arrangements are by Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Darke County Cancer Association.
