Clarence Guthrie Cook, son of Andrew and Isabelle Kinney Cook, was born April 3, 1912 in Clarke Co, Iowa, and departed this life May 4, 1996 at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa at the age of 84 years.
Clarence attended Clarke Co, Schools and was a veteran of World War II where he served with the United States Army. He was with the Heavy Artillery Division and served time in both France and Germany.
He was united in marriage to Vera Bernita Wilkins, May 10, 1944 at Osceola, Iowa and this union was blessed with two children: Gary and Elsie Marie.
After he returned from the service, Clarence was employed by Hawkeye Lumber Co., in Osceola, Iowa and then he went on to drive a truck and also worked for Armstrong Tire and Rubber in Des Moines, Iowa for many years. He retired in 1973.
Clarence was a member of Davis Pence #69 American Legion Post at Osceola, Iowa and the United Methodist Church in Osceola, Iowa. His favorite pastimes were fishing, driving and the most of all, mushroom hunting. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather, who will be greatly missed.
Preceding Clarence in death were his parents, 8 brothers: Orval, Tillman, Ory, Walter, David, Roy, Earl, and Bill Cook and two sisters, Edith Hull and Esther Edgerton.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Vera Cook of Osceola, Iowa; his son Gary Cook and wife Conda of Osceola, Iowa; his daughter, Elsie Potter and husband Fred of Bettendorf, Iowa; 4 grandsons: Robert Potter of Leon, Iowa, Fredrick Potter and wife Vicki of Davenport, Jeremy and Kiley Cook of Osceola, Iowa; three great grandchildren: Christopher Anderson, Brandy and Ryan Denekas; brother in law: Lyle Hull of Oquawka, Illinois and sister in law Dorothy Cook of Chariton and Leona Cook of Indianola, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
