I found only a few references regarding Emeline. The first was in Annals of Platte Co. MO by Wm Paxton which stated Emeline was in an insane asylum in St. Joseph. The second reference was her father's Last Will and Testament written 1858 in which he provided for her upon his death (which was in 15 Feb 1859). A third reference was from the Platte Co Sheriff in a document which indicated he had 'served her in Howard County' notice regarding the land left to her. Last I found her in the 1876 census in an institution in Glasgow, Howard Co. MO listed as between 18-21 and 'can read/write'.
Annals of Platte Co. Missouri state that her father John Brunts died 15 Feb 1859. This is true, I have copies of will and subsequent court proceedings with regard to probate and property division.
20 June 1860 census Carroll Twp, Platte MO:
Mary J Brants, 35 farming
Eliza, 9
Casia, 7
Emeline, 5
Samuel, 3
R.W. Shockley, 37 b. MO farm labor*
She was born between her sister Cassie Brunts 1853 and brother Samuel Brunts. The 1860 census is the only one she appears in with her mother. It appears after that she was institutionalized.
