Betsy Brunts was the firstborn daughter of John Brunts, Sr. and his first wife Bathsheba who married 1803 in Kentucky, and left Kentucky for Missouri. John Brunts, Sr. was in Howard County, MO as early as 1822. Betsy was the eldest of 12 children born in this first marriage, 11 daughters and 1 son. Her father John Brunts, Sr. had a 2nd marriage and 4 additional children. He died Feb 15 1859 in Platte Co. MO. Betsy is named in his Will and his subsequent probate papers. I've listed her birth as 1804 solely on date of marriage and knowing she was eldest. It is a best guess.

Betsy Brunts married 12 Feb 1824 in Howard County, Missouri Richard Clarkson. It is stated both in Annals of Platte County MO by William Paxton, and also her fathers Last Will and Testament which provided for her.
According to one researcher, Richard Clarkson was the son of John Clarkson (1769-1810) and wife Frances Martin (1775-1837).

The couple Richard and Betsy Clarkson are in the 1830 census for Howard County, Missouri. In that census it says there are:
1 male between 30-40
1 female between 20-30
1 female under 5 yrs
1 male under 5 yrs
1 male 5-10 hrs
